Gothampur

Kothagudem or Kottagudem is a small cosmopolitan industrial town in the Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh, about 270 km from Hyderabad. It is also known as the coal town of South India.
Geography
Kothagudem is located at 17°20′N 80°23′E / 17.33, 80.38.[1] It has an average elevation of 89 metres (295 ft).
Industries
Kothagudem heads the The Singareni Collieries Company Limited. The Kothagudem Thermal Power station (K.T.P.S.), Nava Bharat Ferro Alloys (N.B.F.A.), Sponge Iron India Limited(S.I.I.L.) are some of the other industries here. There is also a heavy water plant located nearby. Kothagudem has a branch office of National Geophysical Research Institute (N.G.R.I.) and Geological Survey of India(G.S.I.). It also has the only mining school in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Kothagudem School of Mines (K.S.M.).
The area is endowed with rich forests, industries and landscape. The Railway station was originally named "Bhadrachalam Road", being the closest railway station to Bhadrachalam, an important pilgrimage location of Rama. The Kinnerasani Dam is a popular picnic spot. It is also famous for its record high temperatures during summer, often crossing 50 Celsius mark.[2]. Kothagudem is located very near to the temple town of Lord Rama, known as Bhadrachalam. It is approx 40 km away from Bhadrachalam. Nearby suburbs include Ramavaram, Paloncha, 7 Incline, Rudrampur, etc. A small river(off River Godavari) flows the town and has claimed quite a few lives during rainy seasons.

Kothagudem has many cinema theatres. Sri Vishwaroopa talkies, Sri Poorna talkies, Sri Durga talkies, Sri Rama talkies are to name some. Sri Nageshwara talkies is now closed.

Kothagudem is diverse in terms of Religion. People from all religions live here. St.Andrews church has been recently rebuilt and is now considered as a place to visit for tourists.

As of 2001 India census,[3] Kottagudem had a population of 79,727. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Kothagudem has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 63%. In Kothagudem, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.
